Saint Jude

Jude is a lost cause - or so her friends seem to think. Unlucky in love, they have entered their late twenties without having had a serious, long term relationship. But actually, is that such a bad thing? Maybe self love and singledom aren’t so tragic after all.

Alexandra Ricou, a white non-binary performer, reads from their iPhone as they perform Saint Jude at the Royal Court. They are wearing a pink leopard print jumpsuit and are speaking into a microphone.

Beginning life as a comedic monologue, Saint Jude explores queerness, relationships and self acceptance as a 21st Century woman.

It was originally performed at the Other Room in Cardiff and Yellow Coat Theatre’s new-writing project, Pass It On, in 2020. Alexandra revived the piece as a spoken word performance at the Royal Court in 2023, produced by Purple Moon Drama.

Alexandra is hoping to adapt Saint Jude for the screen as a short film.

“In this world, I think being happy with yourself is the biggest challenge of all.”
